Body located in Whangamatā believed to be man reported missing

Police can confirm the body of a man has been located by a member of the public this morning on Whangamatā Beach.

While the formal identification has not been completed at this stage, Police believe the body is that of the missing 44-year-old man last seen on Friday 25 April.

Police extend our condolences to the man's family and friends during this difficult time, and continue to offer them support.

Sergeant Will Hamilton would like to thank the Whangamatā community and members of the public who have assisted in the search for the missing man.

Two to appear in court following a building fire, Frankton

Hamilton Police have arrested and charged two people following a fire at a workshop in Frankton last month.

Police were called to the fire on Ellis Street at around 11.20am on Monday 10 March 2025.

After an investigation into the fire, Police this morning arrested a 46-year-old man and a 39-year-old woman.

The pair are due to appear in the Hamilton District Court on Tuesday 6 May 2025, charged with arson.

Fatal crash, Horotiu Road

Police can confirm one person has died following an earlier crash south of Te Kowhai.

The single vehicle crash happened at around 4:40pm.

Sadly, the driver has died at the scene.

Horotiu Road remains closed.

Man arrested and charged following incident in Te Awamutu

A man is before the courts after fleeing from Police in Te Awamutu last night, damaging three Police vehicles in the process.

At about 8:30pm yesterday, Police received reports of a theft at a commercial premises on Sloane Street, Te Awamutu. Upon arrival, a vehicle of interest was seen travelling away from the scene, the vehicle was signalled to stop and failed to do so. The vehicle was not pursued.

Name release – death at Wairere Falls

Police can now release the name of the man who died at Wairere Falls on Saturday 19 April.

He was Abdullah Noori, 51, of Glen Innes, Auckland.

Police extend their sympathies to his loved ones.

His death has been referred to the Coroner.

Name release: Fatal crash, Waihi

Police can now name the person who died following a crash on Rosemont Road, Waihi on 13 April.

He was 56-year-old Reihana Claude Albert Ngamotu, of Tauranga.

Update - Man missing near Wairere Falls

Police Search and Rescue staff located the man’s body late this afternoon.

Man missing in water, Wairere Falls

The search is ongoing for a man who went missing in water near Wairere Falls, northeast of Matamata, this morning.

A person walking the Wairere Falls Track saw a man falling into the fast-moving river about 11.50am. Despite their efforts, they were unable to reach him.

A Swift Water Rescue Team earlier notified to assist has been stood down, however Fire and Emergency NZ and LandSAR are assisting Police Search and Rescue.

Searching is expected to continue until sundown, and will be reassessed in the morning.

Fatal crash: Temple View

Police can confirm one person has died following a crash in Temple View earlier today.

Emergency services were called to the single vehicle crash on Tuhikaramea Road at about 10:30am.

One person died at the scene, a second person received minor injuries.

The road remains closed, while a scene examination is carried out.
