Arrest made over Pakuranga fire

Counties Manukau Police have made an arrest following a fire at the McDonalds restaurant in Pakuranga last month.

Detectives have been investigating the suspicious fire which occurred at the Pakuranga Road branch on 5 May.

Detective Senior Sergeant Dean Batey, of Counties Manukau East CIB, says a 12-year-old young person has been arrested and charged with arson.

鈥淭his young person has appeared in the Manukau Youth Court and is currently on court bail conditions,鈥� he says.

鈥淧olice appreciate the fire has been of high interest to the local community.

Death following crash on Friday, Port Waikato

A female has died in hospital following a crash in Port Waikato on Friday.

Emergency services were called to Tuakau Bridge-Port Waikato Road about 6:10pm on 30 May to reports of a single vehicle rolling.

Three occupants of the vehicle were taken to hospital 鈥� two by ambulance, who were moderately and seriously injured respectively, and another by helicopter who was critically injured.

The critically injured female died in hospital yesterday [Saturday].

The Serious Crash Unit attended, and the circumstances of the crash remain under investigation.

Police have arrested a man sought in connection with a violent assault in Papatoetoe earlier this month.

This morning, Police released CCTV images as part of an investigation into the incident on May 9 on Sutton Crescent.

鈥淭his afternoon, a man presented at the 艑t膩huhu Police Station and has been arrested,鈥� Detective Senior Sergeant Mike Hayward, of Counties Manukau West CIB, says.

鈥淗e has been charged with wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.鈥�

The 25-year-old man will appear in the Manukau District Court tomorrow.

Police performing routine breath testing in East Auckland last night bagged a whole lot more than expected.

Just after 6.30pm, officers signalled for a driver to slow down to be breath tested at a checkpoint on Dawson Road.

Counties Manukau East Area Prevention Manager, Inspector Rakana Cook, says Police immediately noticed a strong smell of cannabis coming from the vehicle.

鈥淥fficers invoked a search of the vehicle and located a substantial amount of cannabis in the footwell of the passenger side of the car.

Police moved swiftly to apprehend two people attempting to burgle a Hunua property last night.

Eagle, a dog handler and patrols were despatched to Ponga Road at around 9.30pm after the property owner, who was observing from a distance, alerted Police that he could see people on his property.

Manslaughter charge laid following Papatoetoe death

An additional charge has been laid over a man鈥檚 death following an alleged assault at a Papatoetoe bus stop last month.

On 27 April, 61-year-old Peter Te Kira was located with injuries at a bus stop on Great South Road.

He remained in intensive care at Auckland City Hospital before succumbing to his injuries on 30 April.

A 34-year-old man appeared in the Manukau District Court on 1 May, charged with assault.

Detective Senior Sergeant Mike Hayward, of Counties Manukau CIB, says a homicide investigation has continued into Mr Te Kira鈥檚 death.

Police investigations continue after man injured

A Police investigation is ongoing after a man was seriously wounded in Papakura before lunchtime.

The incident occurred at around 11.42am, when the victim suffered an injury outside a business on Settlement Road.

Detective Senior Sergeant Michele Gillespie, of Counties Manukau CIB, says the victim sustained serious but not life-threatening injuries and was transported to Middlemore Hospital.

鈥淭he offender has fled on foot across Settlement Road and was last seen near an address,鈥� she says.
